Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis Treatment available in our Leeds Clinic using Botox

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a major problem to many people. Excessive sweating is not a topic often discussed; even with our nearest and dearest.  Sufferers mainly try to hide it, as profuse sweating is often associated with an unpleasant odor.  In fact an odor only occurs when the sweat remains on the skin for a long time and therein forms a breeding ground for bacteria.  Focal hyperhidrosis is the term given to sweating in specific areas of the body, such as the hands and/or armpits.hyperhydrosis-leeds

There is no known causes of axillary hyperhidrosis, however there are various factors that may and can play a role in contributing such as: hereditary; dysfunction of the mechanism within the brain that controls the body’s temperature.

Face Perfect Clinic Botox Leeds provides a safe and effective treatment for those people who suffer with excessive sweating which have not responded to topical products.  Botox is injected into the axilla which prevents sweating and the effects last up 6-7 months.

How does Botox work to reduce excess sweating?

Botox has been found to be effective in the management of excess sweating.  It is a bacterial protein, which acts by blocking certain nerve impulses.  Before treatment commences, a powder is dusted loosely over the area to be treated, which allows the overactive sweat glands to be identified. Botox is then injected into the skin, which enters the sweat glands and specifically blocks the nerve impulses to these. Other functions of the nerves such as the sensation of touch are not affected.

What will happen during treatment for hyperhidrosis using Botox

At Consultation your Aesthetic Practitioner will discuss with you any relevant medical history. The practitioner will apply a local anesthetic cream prior to treatment to numb the area.

Prior to treatment the practitioner may test the underarm area to determine the severity of your problem using an iodine starch test. The area of skin will be thoroughly cleaned and the practitioner will then inject very small amounts of botox into each axilla.
