Nefertiti Lift
The Nefertiti was an Egyptian Queen who was known for her smooth and scuptured jaw and neck line. The Nefertiti lift is a technique using botulism toxin that is injected into three ares of the lower face to counteract the effect of aging. Many women wish for the “swan-like” neck and this technique redefines the jaw line, giving an uplifting effect to the neck and jaw area and reduces the sagginess in this area.
There are three muscles; these are the depressor angulis oris (DAO), platysmal bands and the mentalis muscle. The DAO originates from the jaw and inserts into the angle of the mouth. The platysmal muscle are a fan of muscles that extend over the front of the neck and insert into the jaw line and the mentalis muscle laws over the chin. With age the DAO muscle places traction over the corners of the mouth, and causes the downturning of the mouth. The platysmal muscle seperates into bands which causes the “turkey neck”. The platysmal bands will also pull the skin downards which makes the jowls look more pronounced. The mentalis muscle retracts upwards and the overlying skin starts to have an “orange peel” effect.
We can have numerous aesthetic treatments for the face but if we do not address the aging neck, this can be a tell tale sign. By injecting very small doses of botulism toxin into these muscles it will relax the platysmal bands, improve the downturning of the mouth and provide anteror projection of the chin so all of these muscles can work unopposed to give a smoother and elongated neck line.
